Traveling around Europe is a rewarding experience, especially if youlike art. This continent is home of the most famous museums of theglobe. Louvre, Rijksmuseum, Del Prado, Uffizi Gallery and LondonNational Museum are some of them. Norway is a country located at northof Europe and was home of Edvard Munch (1863-1944) a recognizedExpressionist painter. He developed many Paintings during his lifetimebut the most important one is "The Scream". Munch is characterized forexploring the themes of love, life, fear, death and melancholy.


Edvard Munch had a tough childhood, his mother and sister died whenhe was very young. Besides, his father was a religious fanatic. Despitethese troubles, Edvard developed a good career as painter. Initially,he began to study engineering but his artistic conditions changed hisway. In 1881, Munch enrolled at the Royal School of Art and Design ofKristiania, founded by his forefather Jacob Munch. His first teacherwas Christian Krohg. The first Paintings of Edvard were portraits wherehe showed his natural skills for painting.


After this period in Royal School, Edvard traveled to Paris andthen to Berlin where sold several Paintings and had numerousexhibitions. His major works are Evening on Karl Johan (1892), TheScream (1893), Ashes (1894), Vampire (1893-94), Ashes (1894), Madonna(1894-1895), Puberty (1895), Self-Portrait with Burning Cigarette(1895), Death in the Sickroom (1895), Lady From the Sea (1896), TheDance of Life (1899-1900), The Dead Mother (1899-1900), The Sick Child(1907), Death of Marat I (1907) and Self Portrait: Between Clock andBed (1940-1942).
